Sunrisers will take a squad of thirteen to Lord’s this Thursday, when they face South East Stars in the Charlotte Edwards Cup at the Home of Cricket.
The London and East region return to Lord’s for the first time this season, taking on their London counterparts at 2.15pm, before Middlesex face Glamorgan in the Vitality Blast that evening.
Sunrisers head into the game off the back of a last-ball victory against Northern Diamonds on Sunday lunchtime, as we were treated to a thriller in the Northampton sunshine.
It was a brilliant way to bounce back from defeat just two days earlier, in a game that offered many similarities with the bowlers producing fine performances to restrict the opposition batters to a low score.
Mady Villiers and Nic Hancock both picked up two wickets on Sunday, whilst Jodi Grewcock and Eva Grey both bowled superbly and were rewarded with one each. Alongside two run-outs, Diamonds could only manage 123/8.
Cheered on by a sizeable crowd in Northampton, Jo Gardner and Grace Scrivens got the chase off to a solid start by adding 41 for the first wicket when Gardner was caught for 21, before a cluster of middle order wickets.
After being supported well by Grewcock (20), it came down to needing eleven from the final over with Scrivens and Flo Miller in the middle. Scrivens hit three boundaries in the over, including one from the last ball needing two to win, to secure a second victory and close the gap with fourth place to just one point.
Stars have started the competition well, winning four of their five matches with the other being rained off.
The South East side beat Vipers by six wickets on Sunday, thanks to 3/23 from leg-spinner Dani Gregory and half-centuries from Sophia Dunkley and Paige Scholfield. Teenage spinner Tilly Courteen-Coleman hit the headlines in their previous game, having taken four wickets in four balls against Diamonds.
The game starts at 2.15pm at Lord’s Cricket Ground, ahead of Middlesex’s game against Glamorgan in the Vitality Blast. Tickets are still available to buy online, whilst entry is free to Middlesex and MCC members.
