SQUAD AND PREVIEW | SOUTHERN VIPERS V SUNRISERS (7 SEPTEMBER)

Andy Tennant has named an unchanged fourteen player squad for tomorrows crucial Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy clash against Southern Vipers at The Utilita Bowl.

Sunrisers come into the game sitting in fifth place on 30 points and will be eyeing up a coveted semi-final spot. Vipers occupy third position sitting on 34 points. A win over the reigning champions would bring Sunrisers level on points with Vipers, however they would have to overcome a 0.7 net run rate deficit on the hosts. Alternatively, if Blaze fail to win against Sparks this afternoon a victory tomorrow would secure qualification. A bonus point victory against Vipers would guarantee qualification.

Sunrisers fell to a 30-runs defeat against Storm in their last outing. Electing to bowl first on a green pitch, Sunrisers had the visitors, 139/9 after 39 overs, however a 41-run tenth wicket partnership between Wellington and Anderson, saw storm post 180. Sophie Munro picked up three wickets, with Abtaha Maqsood and Jodi Grewcock both picking up two.

In reply, Sunrisers made a strong start, despite the early loss of both openers. Cordelia Griffith and Lissy MacLeod were frequently finding the boundary rope. The turning point in the innings was a superb one-handed diving catch from Storm’s Griffith to remove MacLeod for 48. With 50 runs required in twenty overs, with six wickets in hand, the Sunrisers tail was unable to get the side over the line. Sunrisers were dismissed for 150 within 40 overs.

Vipers were on the wrong side of a final ball thriller against Diamonds in their last game, falling to a one wicket defeat. Batting first, Vipers posted 240/8 in their 50 overs, Georgia Adams top scored with 57. Despite Adams also taking four wickets for Vipers, a 25-run 10th wicket partnership from Diamonds left Vipers heading into the final round of fixtures with it all to play for.

Tomorrow’s game starts at 10:30 am at The Utilita Bowl. Tickets are available ONLINE costing £10 for adults and £5 for U17s.
