Sunrisers have named a squad of twelve to face Southern Vipers at Radlett on Tuesday.
With the Charlotte Edwards Cup group stage having come to an end, Sunrisers face Vipers in a friendly as part of a T20 double header – with Middlesex men facing Hampshire later in the day.
The game starts at 11.30am, and will be live streamed on the Sunrisers YouTube channel. Gates will open from 11.00am.
Sunrisers come into the game off the back of a frustrating Charlotte Edwards Cup campaign, where the performances on the pitch were much better than the results suggested.
Twice the team came within moments of victory – with Western Storm snatching victory from the jaws of defeat at Chelmsford and Central Sparks prevailing by 3 runs in Northampton – and the mood around the camp stayed positive throughout, knowing that the first win of the season is on the horizon.
The squad has been somewhat depleted with injury over the last few weeks, with Cordelia Griffith and Jo Gardner joining Lissy Macleod and Sonali Patel on the sidelines. However, Amara Carr’s return to full fitness has been a joy to watch, hitting 68 runs and taking 4 catches and a stumping in her two matches so far this season.
Kelly Castle captains the side having been the joint-top wicket taker in the CEC this year, alongside young all-rounder Grace Scrivens – who has impressed with both bat and ball.
Naomi Dattani, who ended the campaign as top-scorer having hit 157 runs including two fifties, will also feature, as will international spinner Mady Villiers – who was part of the England Women’s winter Ashes squad last winter.
Scarlett Hughes has impressed during her debut season, and deputised superbly behind the stumps in the first four matches. She took seven stumpings and two catches, before going on to take another catch and a direct hit run-out in the final game against South East Stars. Her Essex team-mate Katherine Speed also featured against the Stars, one of two appearances for her this season, and will likely play again tomorrow.
Mia Rogers, who played in every CEC group game this year, is also included in the squad, alongside bowler Kate Coppack who will be looking to make an impression having not featured since pre-season.
Jodi Grewcock has featured in a number of First Team squads this season, and scored plenty of runs for the Academy so far this year. Jess Olorenshaw and Charley Phillips also step up from the Academy side.
Junior Sunnies and Middlesex members may use their membership card to gain access to the ground and Pavilion. Non-members are of course welcome too, with tickets still on sale for the day on the Middlesex website. Click here to buy tickets.
We look forward to seeing you at Radlett.
