SQUAD AND PREVIEW | BLAZE V SUNRISERS (31 AUGUST)

Andy Tennant has named a fourteen player squad for Saturday's trip to The County Ground, Derby to take on The Blaze in the Rachael Heyhoe-Flint Trophy.

Esmae MacGregor returns to the squad following an injury sustained in July. Kelly Castle features in a match day squad for the first time this season returning from injury. Sophie Munro is ineligible for this fixture due to conditions in her loan from The Blaze.

Sunrisers currently sit in third place, on 30 points, with Blaze in fifth place on 23 points. This game could turn out to be season-defining as both side are looking for a coveted semi-final place. Victory for Sunrisers could see a place confirmed in the semi-finals if Thunder fail to win at Diamonds the following day.

It was a crucial three-wicket victory last time out for Sunrisers as they defeated Diamonds at The Cloud County Ground, Chelmsford. Having lost the toss and being asked to bowl first, Sunrisers we able to restrict Diamonds to 188/9 in their 50 overs. Mady Villiers was the pick of the bowlers claiming 4 for 36 in her 10 overs. Sophie Munro also made a crucial contribution with her 3 for 25.

Despite an early wicket falling, Sunrisers we able to chase down their target with twelve overs to spare. Captain, Grace Scrivens led from the front scoring her fourth half-century of the campaign. Jodi Grewcock also made a solid contribution with 40 runs off as many balls. It was Lissy MacLeod who hit the winning runs with her side seven down.

The Blaze completed a 20-run victory over table toppers Vipers in their last game. Having been asked to bat first, they were bowled out for 208 with one ball to spare. Runs flowed throughout the team with Marie Kelly top scoring with 40. With the ball, Blaze were able to take wickets frequently, preventing the hosts from building any meaningful partnerships. They were eventually able to dismiss Vipers for 188 after 44 overs. Orla Prendergast had the best figures with 3 for 38.

It was a dominant performance from Sunrisers when the sides last met in the RHFT with Sunrisers securing a seven wicket victory at Chelmsford in April. Winning the toss and electing to bowl, Sunrisers dismissed the visitors for 87 inside 32 overs. Nic Hancock and Mady Villers both picked up three wickets, with Kate Coppack claiming two and Jodi Grewcock taking one. Sunrisers comfortably chased down the total within 21 overs. Grace Scrivens top scored with 46 not out.
